Part 6 : Our Inner Light

There is a light within each of us. It is not bound to a single form—sometimes it shines like the morning sun, warm and expansive, filling everything it touches. Sometimes it flickers like a small lamp, steady and quiet, enough to guide the next step. At times, it glows like the moon, soft and reflective, showing us beauty even in darkness. For some, it feels like water—fluid, clear, endlessly moving. For others, it is found in words, music, prayer, or silence. The forms are endless, but the essence is the same: it is the part of us that remains whole, even when the world outside feels uncertain.
This inner light is not about perfection, nor about always knowing the way. Rather, it is about having a core to return to—a place inside that feels like home. When joy surrounds us, the light reflects it, amplifying our gratitude. When sadness arises, the light holds us gently, reminding us that we can survive the night. When confusion clouds our vision, the light waits patiently, illuminating the truth we already carry within.
The beauty of this light is that it is deeply personal. No two inner lights are exactly the same. Yours may take the shape of laughter, resilience, or deep stillness. Mine may look like creativity, compassion, or faith. Someone else’s may be courage, curiosity, or discipline. Just as no two flames burn in exactly the same pattern, no two lives shine in the same way. And yet, all lights are equally sacred, equally necessary. Together, they weave the great tapestry of human connection, each glow contributing to the whole.
In moments of uncertainty, we often look outward for guidance. And while the outer world has its wisdom, there are times when the answers we seek cannot be found in others. They must be drawn from within. By returning to our light—through silence, reflection, breath, or creative expression—we learn to trust ourselves. We remember that we are not fragile shadows, but carriers of something luminous, resilient, and steady.
Coming back to this light again and again is a practice. It is not a one-time realization, but a lifelong relationship. At first, it may feel faint, hidden behind layers of doubt, fear, or distraction. But the more we turn toward it, the stronger it becomes. The more we honour it, the brighter it shines. Over time, it becomes our anchor—our source of strength when storms rise, our compass when the path feels unclear, our celebration when joy overflows.
To live from this inner light is to live authentically. It is to move from a place of alignment, where what we do reflects who we truly are. It is to allow ourselves to be guided not only by external demands but by the wisdom of the heart. And as we grow more familiar with this inner glow, we realize: the light was never lost. It has always been here, waiting for us to notice.
Journaling Practice
Take 15–20 minutes with your journal. Write freely in response to these prompts:
- When I imagine my inner light, what form does it take? (Sun, lamp, moon, water, book, song, or something else.)
- When in my life do I feel most connected to this light?
- What situations or emotions make me forget it is there?
- If I could carry this light with me into moments of confusion or sadness, what would change?
- Write one affirmation that reminds you of your light—for example: “My light is steady within me, no matter what shifts around me.”
Meditation Practice (5 minutes)
- Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
- Take a deep breath in, and slowly exhale. Let your body soften.
- Imagine a light glowing within your chest. Notice its color, its shape, its warmth. There is no right or wrong—simply allow it to appear as it is.
- With each breath, see this light growing brighter, expanding gently through your body, reaching your arms, your legs, your whole being.
- Now, imagine yourself in a moment of challenge—sadness, confusion, or doubt. See this inner light surrounding that moment, holding you steady. Notice how it feels to meet difficulty with this glow inside you.
- Whisper quietly to yourself: “This light is mine. It has always been here. I can return to it anytime.”
Stay here for a few more breaths, resting in the calm of your own glow. When you are ready, gently open your eyes.
