Part 7 : My Inner Light (Sun)

There are many ways we imagine light within us. For some, it is a gentle flame, for others a soft moonbeam, or even the calm reflection on water. For me, it has always been the sun—radiant, intense, impossible to ignore. Whenever I close my eyes and search for strength, I see it: a glowing orb of warmth, zoomed in and filling my inner world. The sun has always given me energy when I felt low, a reminder that even in the darkest moment, I carry a fire within that cannot be extinguished.
The sun does not hesitate to shine. It does not apologize for its brilliance. It burns, it glows, and through its radiance it sustains life. That is what I have come to understand about my own inner light too. It is not fragile, though at times it has felt restricted. It is powerful, steady, and intense—even if it burns as it gives.
For much of my life, I thought I had to dim myself. I thought that shining too brightly would unsettle others, that intensity was something to hide. But as I worked with this image of the sun—drawing its presence, surrounding it with lines and colours—I began to see the truth. There were indeed moments where people, environments, or even my own self-doubt tried to cover it, to make me feel small. I saw the ways my light had been caged, not because it was weak, but because it was mighty. The realization was freeing: my light was never the problem. The only challenge was believing that I needed to make it smaller to be accepted.
Through this practice, a spectrum of emotions surfaced. At first, there was calmness, a sense of steady warmth. Then came inspiration, as I saw the possibilities of letting myself shine fully. But also, tension and anger rose up—the kind of anger that holds old memories of being dimmed, of being told to soften, of being underestimated. Yet as I coloured and shaped the sun, I also felt the cooling presence of water around it. A reminder that balance exists—fire can be soothed, not suppressed. Anger too can be softened, not denied.
What I understood was this: my intensity is not something to fear. It is my gift. The sun may feel restricted at times, but it is still mighty, still radiant, still giving light despite everything. And if this sun truly guided me, tomorrow I would stop hiding. I would walk into spaces unafraid, take up space unapologetically, and remember that shining brightly is not arrogance—it is authenticity.
This inner sun shows me that my energy, my presence, and my fire are not accidents. They are my essence. To carry it into my daily life is to remember: my light never goes out. I am my own source of strength.
Journaling & Reflection
- Where have I dimmed my light to make others comfortable?
- What parts of me burn fiercely that I am still afraid to show?
- When did I last allow myself to shine without hesitation?
- How can I step into tomorrow embodying the truth that I am my own light?
Closing Meditation (5 minutes)
Sit quietly and close your eyes. Breathe in deeply, feeling the warmth of the sun in your chest. With every inhale, let the golden light expand through your body. With every exhale, release the memories of dimming, restricting, or holding back.
See your inner sun glowing brighter, steady, infinite. Whisper to yourself: “I am my own light. I shine. I do not dim.”
Let this warmth stay with you. When you open your eyes, carry the calm strength of your sun into the day ahead—radiant, unapologetic, and true.
